2017年に発表された論文により、DNAメチロームを使ったイヌやオオカミの生物学的年齢の算定法によって、犬の1年はヒトの7年に相当するという誤った推論は否定された。

その後さらに研究は進み、昨年には93の犬種についてのデータが発表されている。

イヌは若い時に急激に加齢し、1年でヒトの30歳相当になるという。そして4歳で52歳。その後7歳頃から老化がゆっくりになる。
