[JTND] Sony Introduces A Blu-ray Disc Recorder


From Company Press Release(in Japanese):

Sony announces the world's first blue-ray-laser-based optical disc
system, BDZ-S77. The recorder has a built-in broadcasting satellite
digital tuner and will be available in April. Blu-ray Discs that Sony
will start to sell hold 23 gigabytes of data and records hi-definition
digital TV programs for two hours or analog TV programs that are
converted to MPEG2 Transport Streams for 12 hours. In addition to
Blu-ray discs, BDZ-S77 plays back DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW,CD-R/RW and
CD. A retail price will be 450,000 yen(U.S. $3800) for the recorder
and 3,500 yen ($30) each for the discs.
