From Slashdot Japan(Japanese):
A public library in Gifu prefecture started an interesting experiment.
The library delivers books to convenience stores. You access and
search the library web site for the book collection and make a
reservation. The reserved books(up to three) are delivered to a store
near your place(or any store locations you want in the
prefecture). You pick up and return it any time during the business
hours(many of convenience stores open 24 hours). Deliveries are
usually made in 5 days. The fee for this service is 420 yen
(U.S. $3.50) for a delivery and a pickup.
[It would be a great service for those who live far away from a
library. In my case, the bus tickets costs 380 yen for a round trip to
the nearest public library. I have no problem paying 420 yen for such
service.]
